A collaboration among three area organizations will make composting food scraps easy at convenient drop-off locations in Midland. Iris 91TV Diversion Specialists have partnered with FILL Midland and Midland Recyclers to bring the Give A Scrap service to the region. A Pop-Up Event is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at Midland Recyclers 4305 E. Ashman Street, Midland during regular business hours from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Give A Scrap staff will be available with program information and early sign-up specials.
Food scraps when landfilled cause methane emissions which are known contributors to the warming climate. “Reducing the amount of food thrown in the trash is an individual action that benefits everyone. The establishment of food scrap drop-off locations will give residents the opportunity to make a positive environmental impact while supporting local businesses. The food scraps collected through the Give A Scrap service are composted in the local region creating a product that improves soil health” said Sarah Archer, owner of Iris 91TV Diversion Specialists.
The Midland Give A Scrap service will also offer residential porch pick up and onsite collection services to businesses, food service establishments, and special events.
