Keep Longview Beautiful hosted the second annual Community Recycling Event. Organizers say it’s all about keeping Longview beautiful year-round. Keep Longview Beautiful Director Zach Korthals calls the event a yearly one-stop recycling drop-off: “Seeing recycled materials get to their proper streams the proper way.”

Residents could recycle cardboard, shredded paper and plastics, according to Korthals. The event also accepted items East Texans may not think about recycling. “They can recycle oil…we can do scrap metal, and we can take tires and batteries,” Korthals said.

Interstate All Battery Center Store Manager Doug Roberts said the event also aims to educate people on recycling standards beyond the one-day drop-off. “We’re trying to create an environment where we can share recycling knowledge with people, showing them other opportunities that they can do it for the other 364 days of the year, kind of networking it with everybody,” Roberts said.
