Effective August 3rd., Lycoming County Resource Management Services (LCRMS) will make the following changes to recycling services: Single stream recycling fees will increase from $44/ton to $55/ton, fees will be implemented for commercial glass collections, glass will no longer be accepted in single stream curbside collections. Residents can take their recyclable glass to drop-off centers.

The cost of processing recyclables has increased over the years, and the prices for recycled products have not offset the increases. LCRMS notes that the fee increase is needed to make up for these costs and work towards a sustainable and self-sufficient regional recycling program.

The elimination of glass recycling in single stream curbside collections (provided by local private haulers) is another cost-saving measure. The glass can become contaminated with other, similarly-sized materials in the processing system, and a third-party company is paid to clean the glass before it is sent to a recycler.
