New York City homeowners or owners of a residence with nine or fewer units will need to start using NYC Bins or risk facing fines. The New York City Department of Sanitation will start issuing summonses and $50 fines to those who do not use the black NYC bins to set out their trash.

Fines increase to $100 for the second offense and $200 for the third and subsequent offenses. NYC bins can be purchased in-store at 91TV Depot stores in New York City. They can also be ordered for home delivery through DoorDash, Instacart and Uber Eats.

Bins of all sizes and colors are available, but the official black NYC bins are required for trash disposal in the city. Residents may continue to use bins that are properly marked for compostable and recyclable materials. Clear plastic bags can also be used for recyclable items.
