Decatur Hills Landfill and Waga Energy (Euronext Paris: WAGA) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at the Decatur Hills Landfill in Greensburg, Indiana. The facility has been in operation since July 2026.

The ceremony brought together local and state officials, community members, and representatives of the project partners. Speakers included Mayor Joshua L. Marsh; Curt Publow, Environmental Compliance Manager of Decatur Hills Landfill; Guénaël Prince, CEO of Waga Energy Inc.; and Allison Gladstone, Director of Business Development at U.S. Energy®, a U.S. Venture company.

Joshua L. Marsh, Mayor of Greensburg, said, “It is great to see additional international investment happening in Decatur County. Innovative alternative energy projects like this show how energy generation can be part of our community while supporting local jobs, encouraging further investment, and contributing to a stronger domestic energy supply.”

The facility captures the gas naturally released by decomposing waste at the landfill, which was previously flared, and upgrades it into RNG for the local community. At full capacity, it can process up to 1,000 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas and produce approximately 203,000 MMBtu of RNG per year. By displacing fossil natural gas, the facility is expected to avoid more than 15,800 metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions annually1, the same amount of CO2 emitted by consuming roughly 1.4 million gallons of diesel fuel.

Jessica Routley, CEO of Best Way Disposal, said “For decades, our family has believed in operating our landfills responsibly and continually investing in better solutions. We are proud to partner with Waga Energy to transform landfill gas into a valuable renewable energy resource, creating lasting environmental benefits for the communities we serve.”

The RNG is injected into the CenterPoint local natural gas distribution network through a nearly 2-mile interconnection financed by Waga Energy and Decatur Hills Landfill and is sold to U.S. Energy for delivery to end markets.  Allison Gladstone, Director of Business Development at U.S. Energy, commented, “Projects like this demonstrate what is possible when innovative technology, strong partners, and market expertise come together. We are proud to connect the renewable natural gas produced at Decatur Hills with markets where it can deliver meaningful environmental and economic value.”

Waga Energy, a global expert in RNG production from landfill gas, financed and built the facility and will own and operate it for at least 20 years. Decatur Hills Landfill performed the site’s development and invested in the natural gas interconnection. Guénaël Prince, CEO of Waga Energy Inc., emphasized, “We are proud to celebrate this milestone with Decatur Hills Landfill and U.S. Energy, two partners who share our long-term vision. By turning gas that was once flared into renewable energy delivered through the local grid, this project creates lasting value for Greensburg and its residents. It shows what strong local partnerships can achieve for the energy transition.”
