The 18th Un-Dumpster Day recycling event was held at the South Broadland Presbyterian parking lot in Kansas City, giving residents an opportunity to donate reusable goods to local charities. Launched in 2022, the initiative functions as a centralized drive to support area nonprofits while reducing waste sent to regional landfills.

During the event, 15 local nonprofit organizations stationed vehicles in the parking lot to collect specific items matching their needs, including bicycles, musical instruments, electronics and furniture. Leslie Scott, creator of Un-Dumpster Day events at Re.Use.Full, highlighted the dual community and environmental benefits of the recycling program.

“You know we’ve kept probably 30 to 40 tons of still good stuff out of the landfill and provided those directly to the organizations that are participating in the event …that might go directly into someone’s home that’s recovering from being unhoused, or it could go to fund their programs through a thrift store that they operate. It really has an environmental impact, but also a human impact,” Scott said.
