Columbia residents who want to recycle glass food and beverage containers now have a new option. The city has opened a new glass recycling drop-off bin in the contractor parking area of the University of Missouri campus. The city partnered with Ripple Glass to add a recycling bin to divert waste from the landfill.
“This addition of this bin is really, really good,” said Jody Cook, a volunteer specialist for waste reduction and recycling education for the city. “It’s so much more accessible to the public, and it’s just a really easy place to get to.”
Ever since a tornado destroyed the recycling center at the city’s landfill in April 2025, Columbia has been looking for alternative ways for the community to recycle. In addition to the new glass recycling bin on Mizzou’s campus, the city also operates a glass-only recycling bin at its landfill, 5700 Peabody Road.
